China will implement a strict motor vehicle environmental supervision system

Chinese officials from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment told reporters in Beijing on the 2nd that they will accelerate the formulation and implementation of action plans for diesel truck pollution control, establish and implement strict environmental supervision systems for motor vehicles, and promote significant improvement in urban and regional air quality.
The 2018 China Motor Vehicle Environmental Management Annual Report released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment shows that China has become the world's largest producer and seller of motor vehicles for nine consecutive years. In 2017, the total number of motor vehicles in China reached 310 million. Motor vehicle pollution has become an important source of air pollution in China, and the urgency of preventing and controlling motor vehicle pollution is becoming increasingly prominent.
The person in charge of the Atmospheric Environment Management Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment said that with the rapid increase in the number of motor vehicles, the air in some cities in China has begun to show the characteristics of combined pollution of coal smoke and motor vehicle exhaust, directly affecting public health.
In 2017, the total emissions of four pollutants from motor vehicles in China were initially calculated to be 43.597 million tons, a decrease of 2.5% from the previous year. Among them, carbon monoxide is 33.273 million tons, hydrocarbons are 4.071 million tons, nitrogen oxides (NOx) are 5.743 million tons, and particulate matter (PM) is 509000 tons. Cars are the main contributors to air pollution emissions from motor vehicles. Diesel trucks, which account for 7.8% of car ownership, emit 57.3% of NOx and 77.8% of PM, making them the top priority for motor vehicle pollution prevention and control.
The person in charge of the Atmospheric Environment Management Department stated that the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will accelerate the formulation and implementation of action plans for diesel truck pollution control, reduce the total amount of diesel truck pollution emissions, optimize and adjust the transportation structure, focus on high pollution and high emission diesel trucks, establish and implement a strict "all prevention and control" environmental supervision system for motor vehicles, implement four major actions: clean diesel vehicles, clean diesel engines, clean transportation, and clean oil products, ensure a significant increase in the proportion of railway freight transportation, a significant decrease in total pollutant emissions, and promote a significant improvement in urban and regional air quality.
